Recently, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and the Arizona Department of Public Safety reminded drivers to err on the side of caution when encountering a low-visibility dust storm. These storms can be incredibly dangerous, so the Tucson car accident attorneys at Kinerk, Schmidt & Sethi, PLLC encourage you to keep the following tips in mind:
- If possible, avoiding driving directly through a dust storm
- Check the traffic around your vehicle & begin slowing down
- Pull off of the road before poor visibility makes it difficult to do so
- Avoid stopping in a travel lane or emergency lane
- Once stopped, turn off your lights (including emergency flashers)
- Set your emergency brake and take your foot off of the brake
- Stay inside of your vehicle with your seatbelt buckled
- Be on the lookout for downed power lines or traffic signals
- When approaching an intersection, stop before passing through
