Engage Foundation Ready to Kick Off Second Annual Youth Co-ed Touch Rugby League

Schmidt, Sethi & Akmajian is proud to be the Gameday Sponsor for the Engage Foundation, a nonprofit established by Matt Schmidt to teach underprivileged kids how to engage in life by providing new, free and safe opportunities to participate in activities that are challenging, inspiring and underrated. Engage's current focus is non-tackle rugby, but will include additional activities as the program grows in 2019. Last year, Engage influenced over 100 kids from all over the city, including those from the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Tucson, The Boys and Girls Club of Tucson, the military, the Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and The Blind and more. Engage provided each league participant with a bag, water bottle, jersey and rugby ball. Over 40 kids were also properly fitted and provided with a brand new pair of cleats.

Engage will kick off it's second Youth Co-ed Touch Rugby League every Sunday from September 16 to October 28 from 8-10am at Rillito Park. Kids will again be provided with bags, water bottles, jerseys, rugby balls, cleats for those that need them, and some new prizes in store for this year. Each Sunday will feature a core value (family, respect, passion, preparation, service, toughness) complimented with a physical skill (Rugby 101, passing, moving forward, positioning, commitment, defensive lines) that will include team building activities, drills, discussion, reflection and games.

Engage's mascot is The Pack (Passionate, Active, Committed, Kind), representing a pack of different desert animals working together to achieve great things.

The registration deadline for this year's league is September 1.

Ted A. Schmidt

Ted's early career as a trial attorney began on the other side of the fence, in the offices of a major insurance defense firm. It was there that Ted acquired the experience, the skills and the special insight into defense strategy that have served him so well in the field of personal injury law. Notable among his successful verdicts was the landmark Sparks vs. Republic National Life Insurance Company case, a $4.5 million award to Ted's client. To this day, it is the defining case for insurance bad faith, and yet it is only one of several other multi-million dollar jury judgments won by Ted during his career. He is certified by the State Bar of Arizona as a specialist in "wrongful death and bodily injury litigation".
