Caridad Community Kitchen is a community meal program of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona. It provides meals for those in need, as well as a culinary and job skills training program for low-income or underemployed individuals. Our entire office was proud to spend the day volunteering there.
After a thorough orientation and safety training, we got our gear on -- hair nets and aprons -- and hit our assigned tasks. Our job was to prepare boxed lunches for elderly veterans in Tucson. With the help of the kitchen's chefs and staff, we were put to work. Over the course of a few hours we prepared and assembled nearly 900 boxed meals. The menu had a special holiday spin - fresh salad, roast beef and vegetables, fruit, and a homemade spiced cupcake with cream cheese frosting.
As the holidays arrive, it's an important time to remember our blessings and do what we can to help our community. Life is hard. And this was a great opportunity to give back.
