Profits over think this stuff is only in the movies like The Verdict or dramatized Erin Brockovich.  But it remains a very real part of real life.

The New York Times takes a very deep dive into the massive Takata airbag recall, concluding, "shaving a few dollars off the price of a ubiquitous
auto part helped save an obscure Japanese company, and led to the auto industry's biggest recall."
